OUR STORY

Hilltribe Organics began when two generations came to realize that they shared a similar dream – that with the right support, sustainable contract organic farming can produce  amazing products AND be attractive to farmers and their families.

Together, we saw an opportunity. When we tried food grown organically on certified fallow soil, the taste was not just guilt-free, but actually surprisingly full of flavor – just flat out better tasting. So we set out finding ways to make special varieties of this great food available to people around the world, working with rural farmers in underdeveloped areas, making sure they farm the land in a respectful and sustainable manner and receive at least their fair share.

OUR VISIONS

The hill tribe areas of Northern Thailand are breathtakingly beautiful. It has been home to the Akha and Karen tribes for centuries. Neither Thai nor Burmese, they are socially isolated and marginalized. Mostly rice farmers, they are poor since they get only one crop due to the climate and altitude. Most concerning to us, these communities have been shrinking as their children have been leaving for the cities in search of a better life – which they rarely find. Resulting in older and older farmers. How to restore and sustain these communities is the problem we studied.

The Vision of Hilltribe Organics is to transform the lives of poor hill tribe communities in Northern Thailand. By transferring knowledge organic agriculture and growing the skill sets of the farmers and their families, we aim to at least double family income and create real and lasting social change and development with the hill tribes.

Hilltribe Organics aims to work with existing natural and social eco-systems within the Thai hill tribe areas to offer superior organic products that generate know and income to uplift communities while respecting and preserving their unique way of life.

OUR STRATEGY

Remembering the huge difference of organic free range eggs raised by farmers compared to industrial egg production, and with nothing like that in the huge Thai egg market, we thought this would be a great complementary product for our rice farmers. We started in Wawee Village in 2014 launching the Thailand’s first organic free range eggs (there were neither organic nor free range at the time) in the first biodegradable package. HTO continues to be the #1 organic free range egg brand in Thailand based on the amazing quality of our eggs. And we now have started exports.
